A Plug for Natural Laundry Soap

"It is not just gasoline hitting record highs. Even though gas has hit $4.00 per gallon, LAUNDRY DETERGENT has just hit a record high of $17.00 per gallon? Why? Most people believe the myth that detergents are natural soaps. They are far from it. Detergents are petrochemicals derived from crude oil. AND they are packaged in plastic bottles which are made from petrochemicals. Who ends up having to pay for these massive spikes in raw materials costs? WE DO of course. You don't expect them to cut their profit margins do you?" From Mercola.com

Laundry Soap kit special $25.00 - Makes 30 bars. Designed to get 2-3 loads per bar. I cut that in half and get 5-6 loads per bar with my front loader.

Remember to call the new number 204-0343 for questions and orders.

Broome Community College Beginner Class Helpers Needed

Yes, I'll teach the class but will need an assistant. Looking for volunteers, June 28th, from 8:30 am until 1:30 pm at the BCC campus for a beginner class of about 6 students. Nothing strenuous but I'll just be lecturing due to the right arm break. This is a great time of year to make pet soap or gardener's bar, bridal shower or wedding gifts and have a day of fun, too.

Looking for Helpers

Well, the time is here for the big move. Anyone out there willing to help an injured right hand soapmaker set up her soap room? Since I can't write very well and my left arm and hand is so taxed out from overuse, any assistance in labeling, organizing and setting up for future order filling and classes would be welcomed. Remember as a bribe, I'll be weeding out lots of scents, herbs, etc. so the rewards will be angelic.

Hot Weather Soapmaking

Kitchens without airconditioning will affect your soapmaking technique somewhat. Beside the obvious that you'll have to put your lye/water pot in an ice bath to reach your temps, and the oil will take longer to cool, trace may come more slowly. Plan to make your soap in the late evening (or if you ever can't sleep at 3 a.m.). With the heat also comes the humidity which will slow the cure time (water evaporation) so a dehumidified room is recommended. This is especially important if you have a detailed plastic mold since the design will hold the soap when removing.

OK - Maybe I'll Survive

I actually made a split batch of raspberry and double mint with one arm. There are ways to improvise on the tough part of pouring. Of course, the house chores are much more difficult to handle and I'll have to slack off for a little bit. The herbs gardens are doing well aren't they? Remember to dry your herbs well so they won't mold when adding to your soap at trace.
